Cryptorchidism is seen in male cats and dogs. It is the failure of one or both testicles to descend into the scrotum. By the age of 6 months, testicles should be easily seen and palpated in the scrotum of both dogs and cats. If one or both testicles are not present in the scrotum it may be located anywhere along the regular path during normal testicular development.
As testicular torsion, a life-threatening problem, and cancer are more likely in males with this condition, it is highly recommended that they are neutered.
